NKD Basketball is committed to teaching the game in its most fundamental incarnation.  Taking players or teams and teaching them the proper execution for skills, moves, or team concepts so that they are prepared physically, mentally and technically to compete against the toughest competition.  We want to accomplish this all in an atmosphere of joy.  Where players are constantly motivated by their improvement and love for the game.  We don't care about glass backboards, fancy floors, or the latest gear.  We only care about teaching the game and seeing the enjoyment that comes with improvement.  We are basketball stripped to its most basic elements and made accessible to all.

Head Instructor

Doug has been coaching basketball for the past 30 years.  He spent 23 seasons as the head coach with the Memorial University Sea-Hawks women's basketball program.  During that time he oversaw the transformation of the Sea-Hawks from a team that had never made the AUS play-offs into a 7 time AUS champion, the 2007 CIS national bronze medal winners and 21 straight play-off appearances.  During his run he was recognized as AUS coach-of-the-year 5 times, Sport NL coach-of-the-year twice and CIS national coach-of-the-year in 2003.  Doug helped develop 8 CIS All-Canadian award winners, 7 AUS MVP award winners and countless AUS 1st and 2nd team All-Stars.  His teams were consistently among the best defensive, 3-point shooting and free throw shooting teams in the conference and the country.  Recognized by his peers as a great game tactician and a fine teacher of fundamentals, Doug has turned his focus to helping players and teams become more skilled and better prepared to play at their chosen level.  Whether you are a beginner or an accomplished player looking to get to the next level Doug has the knowledge and teaching ability to help you achieve your goals.
